Chelsea's Help International

Introducing: Chelsea’s Help International – Helping Orphans in China We had fun playing with the kids at the Zhongshan Childrens Welfare Institute (ZCWI). The ZCWI is one of 56 orphanages in the province of Guangdong . The ZCWI is home to over 300 children. We wanted to do something for the place that gave Chelsea a home for the first 2 years of her life. We plan to send shipments over a couple of times a year. We want to start by sending soccer balls to our friends at the ZCWI. If you would like to help, send your contributions to: CHI PO BOX 2633 Ruston, LA 71272. We would like to send by April 1, 2013. Thanks for sharing.

Our Day

After the blog post this morning I was able to go back to bed and slept until 9. We all got dressed and ate breakfast at hotel. It was decent enough:). Then we met our guide and a few other families and went into an old district of Beijing, Hutang. We went to a family's house where the wife prepared lunch for us. The family has lived in this house for 150 years. we learned a lot about the history of the area and how the families live. Mr. Lui, the owner, is Kung Fu instructor at a university and his son was in the Beijing olympics. lunch was very good! This is a pic of their gate and house with Mr. Lui and his son. He played the 2 string instrument for us and showed the boys his samurai swords.

Then we went on a rickshaw ride through the neighborhood. The streets were so narrow!

After that we climbed to the top of the drum tower(69 very steep steps) and were able to hear the performers. It used to be used as a clock in the area. But this time we were freezing!

Our guide then took us to a traditional tea ceremony. Even Cayden tried the different teas. We had 7 different kinds of tea.

We went to acrobatic show this evening which was great! No pics though. Then back to the hotel and Neal and I walked to McDonald's to get supper. Headed to bed now.

P.S. there is a group of people from Spain staying at our hotel that all have their little ones. They are so cute and make me very jealous!

  3. The "pasakar" family is excited to see you so close to Gotcha. Your Beijing touring looks like it was much cooler (literally and figuratively) than ours was. Blessings on your big day next Monday.
